Red Star Concert
Dec 18 1998

Title Design/ Animation: Television Show
MTV Networks/ VH1
Every New Years Eve, Heineken presents a 'Red Star' concert, inspired by the red star in their logo.
Since the concert itself is already a gigantic display, I didn't want to take any particular graphic style too far. In fear it would conflict with however the stage show would be presented.
From there I decided to do a celebratory New Years Eve feel with fireworks and a kaleidoscope look. Bright. Partying. Festive.
Holiday 98'

Title Design/ Animation: Network Identity
MTV Networks/ VH1
As the holiday season rolls around, all the television networks get their ducks in a row to repackage their broadcasts with a seasonal look.
This year, they asked me to put together some packaging elements, like bugs and loopable backgrounds for VH1.
I wanted to go a bit of a hybrid direction. Part classic, like the package design of old christmas lights or whatever, and then go hyper modern with wireframe and 3-D models of snowflakes spinning and drifting around the screen.
Billboard's 40 Top 40 Singles

Title Design/ Animation/ Sound Design: Television Show
MTV Networks/ VH1/ Billboard Magazine
To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Billboard Top 40, MTV Networks and VH1 created a show to feature 40 of the number one hits: one from each year.
For the title sequence, I decided to target the Billboard logo, which has remained pretty much the same for the past four decades. Using that logo as the center point, I focused on the distinct looks of each decade.

I'm not sure of the details, but for some reason it was a rush job. Like, an overnight situation needed the next day. The brain storming for an idea was just as brief. About crushed dreams in sports... hoop dreams... basketball... crushed... shattered on the ground.... GO!
It actually sort of surprises me when I'm actually able to deliver something like this. I had no idea how to make a basketball look like it shattered on the ground! But for whatever reason I knew exactly what I was going for and convinced myself I would get there, and here we are.
