Here's the latest episode of Popular Science Magazine's "The Future of...", and it is known as Immortality. It's not just for gods anymore, and soon it will be coming to your supermarket. Or something like that.
The concepts in this episode are not as visually spectacular as some prior episodes, but the diagrams have a lot of important technical information to get across. The visual effects cover some complicated additions to footage that include very detailed motion tracking and matting, as well as animating disembodied organs! Happy Halloween! I also got to get stick figure Baratunde get high and pass out, which made any other struggles I may have had with this episode well worth it.
Pirate Sleeve

Tattoo Design
The Russian's been talking a lot about getting a half sleeve tattoo on her arm, and wanted it sailing themed. Of course being obsessed with sailing and being a real pain in the ass, she has an affinity towards Pirates so that's where we started with the design.
It took a very long time to come up with the design, and even then, it is probably just a transitional design to figure out what a final would use or not. It is the distillation of a laundry list of ideas and themes: squids vs octopi, anchors, flags, banners, nautical stars,…

Have you been waiting for an episode of Popular Science Magazine's "The Future of..." to finally make it to your kitchen? Yeah, neither was I. But that is a big part of this episode entitled Habitat.
The precreations in this episode were very simplistic so there was little to do but add transitions, but for our artificial leaf of the future. Other than that were a lot of technical diagrams, very light on the conceptual side and heavy on mechanics. A welcomed change from trying to figure out how to illustrate ambiguous concepts like in other episodes.

The TV show, Ghost Whisperer, not only broadcasts a television show, but also contributes to an online presence with further content and features.
In this instance they hired Vince Marcello [ IMDB ], to create a Ghost Whisperer themed music video for Keaton Simons [ http://www.keatonsimons.com/ ], that would also have an interactive component incorporated into it.

Popular Science Magazine's "The Future of..." Communication covers a wide variety of concepts to connect with the world around you.
This particular episode was visual effect intensive, even when we thought it would be a walk in the park. Only a few diagrams this time around, and for the most part they were all really fun to do. This was probably my favorite episode of the series to work on because everything I got to do felt complete and was visually interesting.
