Curios of expression that defy definition.
Black Russian. White Russian.

Painting Diptych
"Tales of the Black Russian" + "Tales of the White Russian"
About a full year ago I had an idea for a series of paintings for my 7-Hells body of horror work. A very, very large series. Not large is size, maybe, but large in number.
The issues at the time were: 1) I never painted before 2) the concept would take a lot of custom fabrication after painting and 3) it was obvious that this could quickly become a very expensive experiment.

The Annual Christmas Card: 2009
It's that time of year again, which means time for another self absorbed xmas card!
This year was all about tattoos. For some reason in the past few months, I've been designing a lot of tattoos for people, so it inspired the theme for the card. Of course this all happened before I discovered Krampus! That would have changed everything since I cannot ever imagine doing anything but Krampus oriented things for the holidays, ever again. WHY WAS THIS KEPT FROM ME!?
The Robot Costume

B-Movie Robot
Halloween. It's a hot or cold holiday to participate in. More times than not, I do not do the costume thing, but when I do I try to go all out.
This year the Russian wanted to do a couples thing, so it seemed like a good opportunity to do something fun. What we decided to do was an homage to Sci-fi B-Movies of the 1950s.
Jeff's 50th Birthday Card

My Brother, Jeff
Happy Halloween and Happy Birthday to my brother Jeff! He turns a big 50 years old today!
Since we talk almost once a year sometimes, I figured it would be good mojo to make a card for him on his golden birthday. Since he likes hunting, I took it from there and drew a 50 point buck celebrating it's own birthday, but dead, mounted on a wall.
Megan's Bees
Oct 24 2009

Tattoo Design
My friend Megan decided to get her first tattoo and I was lucky enough to bee asked by her to design a version for her consideration!
The story behind it seems simple enough: she's afraid of bees, so it's sort of a totem she's getting put on her body to help overcome her fear.
The target size was to bee about the size of a quarter, so it seemed appropriate to do a profile design, being able to recognize the silhouette of the bee at various sizes.
Pirate Sleeve

Tattoo Design
The Russian's been talking a lot about getting a half sleeve tattoo on her arm, and wanted it sailing themed. Of course being obsessed with sailing and being a real pain in the ass, she has an affinity towards Pirates so that's where we started with the design.
It took a very long time to come up with the design, and even then, it is probably just a transitional design to figure out what a final would use or not. It is the distillation of a laundry list of ideas and themes: squids vs octopi, anchors, flags, banners, nautical stars,…

Painting: "Aloha Pele"
Anniversary Gift
If anyone follows me on twitter (via facebook status?), they know I've recently taken up painting and won't shut the hell up about it. This is because I've never painted before and I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Hence it takes an extremely long time to get the most remedial painted image, cutting into any other life activity I could possibly tweet about. Get into tweeting bitches.

The Dawn and Drew Show/ 7 Hells
On Christmas day I was working (yes, I worked all day on Christmas), and listening to one of my favorite podcasts, the Dawn and Drew show [ www.dawnanddrew.com ].
The show is essentially Dawn getting angry and yelling at her husband Drew for no rational reason. It is amusing because both of them are really funny and really nice.
Anyway, Drew is notorious for coming up with 'grandpa jokes', and on christmas day I listened to him come up with an instant classic. A reference to a Zombie Whale, and how it would say BRINE instead of BRAINS.

The Annual Christmas Card: 2008
Just a few weeks ago I was so happy that I found the time to make a xmas card for this year! Well, it's Christmas eve, and my cards have NEVER ARRIVED. Luckily most of them were sent out directly from the printer, but for those who's addresses I didn't have just have to deal with impersonal e-mail.
Boohoo.
I think the thing that chaps my ass the most is how much damn time it took to make -- and then it doesn't even look that good! Pen and ink. Rushed the drawing. Shows no depth. Little line variation. Then it's common knowledge I know jack about coloring, and that's the only tool I had to fix all the crap I rushed!

The Annual Christmas Card: 2007
It was a late night. For too long, it looked like the Professor and Mary Anne had committed a crime of passion in my dining room. Grass matting. Fishing nets. Piles of bamboo. Two weeks of hard work had finally culminated to the completion of my Tiki Room in my new apartment.
All of this work had been a distraction from any other personal project I may have wanted to pursue, including my annual xmas card. So what better time to finally get inspired to put together a xmas card? MOMENTS AFTER THE TIKI ROOM WAS LAUNCHED.
