7 Hells Vinylmation Tiki 01

Custom 9" Vinyl Toy

As I've been expanding my body of personal horror artwork [ www.7hells.com ], more and diverse projects are brought to me. This latest piece is my first foray into the world of custom vinyl toys.

Many collectors will value shorter runs of a particular design or even, as in this case, will pursue one of a kind custom creations that are made directly onto blank versions of vinyl molds.

Bite of the Reptile Woman

Painting + Process
"Bite of the Reptile Woman"

Happy Friday the 13th! Some of you may already be familiar with my other website, 7hells.com, which is exclusively dedicated to my personal horror art work.

Not much of the work overlaps onto the ATOMIC ROCKET, but I thought it may be interesting to document the process of creating one of the unique 'Shadowbox' paintings.

Xmas Card 2010

The Annual Christmas Card: 2010

In the never ending struggle to create a new and original holiday card every year, I discovered this year that the trick was to pick the right holiday. So this year, the spotlight turns to the little known celebration of Krampuslauf!

For those of you who may have taken a gander at last year's holiday card post, my very late in life discovery of Krampus was a major let down because I'd already made my cards for 2009.

B+W Russians

Painting Diptych

"Tales of the Black Russian" + "Tales of the White Russian"

About a full year ago I had an idea for a series of paintings for my 7-Hells body of horror work. A very, very large series. Not large is size, maybe, but large in number.

The issues at the time were: 1) I never painted before 2) the concept would take a lot of custom fabrication after painting and 3) it was obvious that this could quickly become a very expensive experiment.

Xmas Card 2009

The Annual Christmas Card: 2009

It's that time of year again, which means time for another self absorbed xmas card!

This year was all about tattoos. For some reason in the past few months, I've been designing a lot of tattoos for people, so it inspired the theme for the card. Of course this all happened before I discovered Krampus! That would have changed everything since I cannot ever imagine doing anything but Krampus oriented things for the holidays, ever again. WHY WAS THIS KEPT FROM ME!?

Costume Design

B-Movie Robot

Halloween. It's a hot or cold holiday to participate in. More times than not, I do not do the costume thing, but when I do I try to go all out.

This year the Russian wanted to do a couples thing, so it seemed like a good opportunity to do something fun. What we decided to do was an homage to Sci-fi B-Movies of the 1950s.

Jeff's 50th Birthday

Illustration: Birthday Card

My Brother, Jeff

Happy Halloween and Happy Birthday to my brother Jeff! He turns a big 50 years old today!

Since we talk almost once a year sometimes, I figured it would be good mojo to make a card for him on his golden birthday. Since he likes hunting, I took it from there and drew a 50 point buck celebrating it's own birthday, but dead, mounted on a wall.

Megan's Bees

Tattoo Design

My friend Megan decided to get her first tattoo and I was lucky enough to bee asked by her to design a version for her consideration!

The story behind it seems simple enough: she's afraid of bees, so it's sort of a totem she's getting put on her body to help overcome her fear.

The target size was to bee about the size of a quarter, so it seemed appropriate to do a profile design, being able to recognize the silhouette of the bee at various sizes.

Pirate Sleeve Tattoo

Tattoo Design

The Russian's been talking a lot about getting a half sleeve tattoo on her arm, and wanted it sailing themed.  Of course being obsessed with sailing and being a real pain in the ass, she has an affinity towards Pirates so that's where we started with the design.

It took a very long time to come up with the design, and even then, it is probably just a transitional design to figure out what a final would use or not. It is the distillation of a laundry list of ideas and themes: squids vs octopi, anchors, flags, banners, nautical stars,…

Aloha Pele Painting

Painting: "Aloha Pele"

Anniversary Gift

If anyone follows me on twitter (via facebook status?), they know I've recently taken up painting and won't shut the hell up about it. This is because I've never painted before and I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Hence it takes an extremely long time to get the most remedial painted image, cutting into any other life activity I could possibly tweet about. Get into tweeting bitches.
