I'd Do Anything for Baby

Director: Music Video

The Vibro Champs

This summer I returned to Minneapolis to shoot another music video with another local band. This time around, something a bit more my speed: a rockabilly band!

The Vibro Champs are an amazing rockabilly band that I used to go see all the time when I lived in Minneapolis a million years ago. Since then, the members have  moved all over the world and they descended back on the Twin Cities to reunite for a music video for their new, and possibly last, album together.

 The Idle Hands

It's become an annual event to spend a few weeks in Minneapolis to direct a music video and drag along MCAD's SES program and convince them that all the fun we're having is actually a learning experience.

As years past, it was a lot of fun, but it was the most brutal shoot. The temperatures were hitting 100o, with dozens of extras, and a set that was many, many acres large.

 Heiruspecs

Returning to Minneapolis, Minnesota for a summer trip, I got to work with the fantastic hip-hop band, the Heiruspecs.

I had seen them perform once before, by chance, when they opened up for Mark Mallman at First Avenue. They were an amazing combination of hip-hop, rap, and deeply faceted musicianship, because they actually had real instruments in the band.

 Friends Like These

Swinging into Minneapolis this summer, I directed this music video for the up and coming local band, Friends Like These.

This was all done with the fantastic support of the Minneapolis College of Art + Design and their summer high school  college program called SES.

The Search for Runaround Sue

Writer/ Director: Short Film

If there is one consistent thing between all of the films I make, it's that my intention is to transport viewers to a different world. And that's what I tried to do with the Search for Runaround Sue, to a new personal degree.

The story revolves around Jake, who's kid sister, Sue, has run off with her boyfriend for the evening. Jake needs to get her home by Curfew, and the only one he knows with a car to help him track her down is his Greaser friend, Kenny. Of course Kenny wants no part in this, but ends up becoming Jake's reluctant guide into the seedy underworld of rock n' roll!

Goodnight Irene

Writer/ Director: Short Film

My goal with Goodnight Irene was to tell a haunting, and hopefully thoughtful, story with no dialog, in little more than five minutes. YES, an entire film in five and a half minutes.

So as to not make it feel awkward that no one is speaking, I came up with a little yarn about someone who is alone the entire time.

This is so far my favorite film I've ever made. This proves the old adage that 90% of directing is casting!

Captain Atomic

Writer/ Director: Short Film

A continuation of video thumbnail sketches, I had the idea that I wanted to make a live action comic book.

Back in the days of Liquid Television, there was a great adaptation of the comic book called 'the Maxx'. It was a panel for panel interpretation.

What I wanted to do was make a story that incorporated more interaction between the panels, and the conventions iconic to comic books.

The Nature of Phi

Writer/ Director: Short Film

This is a part of a series of short films which I spend as little time as possible to create. It's like a video sketchbook. Rough ideas executed roughly.

This particular project was a little experimental idea dealing with mathematics and it's reflection in nature. This particular concept I was researching, and attempting to illustrate, is called the Golden Mean, or represented in mathematics as phi.
