In the making of the graphics package for the Bora-bora travel video, for In-N-Out Burger, an extension of the design was used to create the menus for the DVD that it would be distributed on.

As any DVD these days, it contains chapter selections, bonus materials, and in this case, credits for the creators behind it all.

For a few years now, I've been putting together ongoing series of artwork with the common theme of horror tying them all together.

When it started to become apparent that this past time was becoming more and more important (and large) with no end is sight, I knew that to unveil it to the world I must create a completely separate website.

There was born www.7hells.com !

In-N-Out Burger

As you may have known since the official announcement back in May, everyone's cult-favorite Burger joint, In-N-Out Burger is expanding to Texas. For this big move, comes new steps in communication within the company, and for that reason I was called in lend a hand.

It's been YEARS since I was working in the In-N-Out world but I answered the call with a quick prototype design for a new Texas-centric internal website for all of their associates.

Putting together a website for a client is always 1/2 design and 1/2 content organization. The latter is really the important part, because changing the design down the road is much easier than having to re-organize things on some global level.

When Asgaard wanted a site designed, it was with the intention to be expandable as more and more projects of theirs came to fruition. Yet at the same time, it needed to be able to highlight specific, individual projects, or aspects of them.

The exciting things happening with web development these days are web apps. Putting together an online interface to an application. That, and the trend of networking sites is bringing together interesting niches for people to take part in.

When I got the call from Scripped, it interested me because of my connection to the film industry -- it happens to be an online screen writing community and web app. Web design is of little interest to me, but having a go at giving a polish to a social network concept and then on top of that, have a go at GUI design for a web app, I agreed to do a pass.

BTV Website

Design: Website

In-N-Out Burger

Since the 1980s, BTV has been the central source of official communication to the associates of In-N-Out Burger.

This year, they decided to investigate tapping into the Internet with a web presence. It would most likely be limited to a local intranet or some other sort of controlled access, because the information would be primarily proprietary.

Anyway, I put together an idea of how the site could organize information, how to access it, and made fully working demos of how you could subscribe to streaming video and video podcasts of things such as Smile of the Month segments.

When you get a call from the Orkin man, you answer it. In this case, it was a call for a website to be made to highlite and track the career of his alter ego, Wayne Yorke.

I normally don't do web sites. Back in 1995, it was exciting because it was new and the limitations made it a challenge. Everything you did was precedent setting. Now-a-days, web designers are essentially the equivalent of brochure designers. Everything had already been done, evolution has decided the best way to layout information, and technology has made everything simple to execute.

In-N-Out Burger

DVD menu design is always an interesting conundrum. I personally am not impressed with animated DVD menus. I don't care about transitions between menu items or looped audio or video in the backgrounds of the menus. I just want it obvious to use and get around.

At the same time I am interested in the design and intuitive feel of any interface, which includes DVD menus. It's what makes the difference between the success of products like beloved Apple computers and the grating, worthless PC counterparts. It's all interface and usability.

This was the first year we put a concerted effort into bringing the DVD menus into the design, and make them their own design. Not just an after thought.

The entire show packaging, from the show titles to the DVD packaging design, all tied together into comic book themed fun. And when I say tied together, I mean tied together tightly.

When I finished my short film, The Search for Runaround Sue, the next obvious step was to get ready to promote it.

The best way to promote anything, is on the Internet, so I threw together a simple website to organize the information for the movie.

It is a simple structure to find screening dates, info on the cast and crew, and see stills and trailers to look at.
